Saudi Arabia to Host 89th Global Water Council’s Governors Meeting in Riyadh

The 89th meeting of the Board of Governors of the World Water Council was hosted in Riyadh, with the presence of the Deputy Minister of Environment, Water, and Agriculture for Water, Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Shaibani, and the Council’s President, Loic Fauchon, along with other members. The main focus was on discussing the key issues and challenges facing the water sector globally.

This meeting took place alongside the first preparatory meeting for the World Water Forum 2027, the 89th meeting of the Board of Governors of the World Water Council. The aim was to identify global priorities in water issues that will be discussed over the next three years and announce the outcomes in Riyadh in 2027.

Dr. Al-Shaibani highlighted the significant progress in the water sector in the Kingdom, attributing it to a series of structural reforms stemming from the National Water Strategy to achieve the goals of Vision 2030, as well as various water systems and initiatives.

He emphasized the importance of Saudi cooperation at all levels in improving water services globally. The existing projects and initiatives have enhanced water management and planning services worldwide. The ambitious strategic goals and large water projects planned for the near future aim to elevate and prosper the sector.

It is worth noting that the 11th edition of the World Water Forum will be held for the first time in the Middle East, with the participation of experts and specialists to discuss the prominent global water issues and set a roadmap for hosting the Forum’s activities in the Kingdom in 2027.
