Pharmaceutical Factory Fined 1.4 Million Riyals and Referred to Public Prosecutor’s Office

The General Authority for Food and Drug fined a factory in the new industrial city in Riyadh “1,450,000” Saudi Riyals and referred it to the public prosecution for manufacturing and selling pharmaceutical products before registering them.

The authority identified the violation during its regulatory inspections, revealing that the facility was producing and selling pharmaceutical and herbal products in commercial quantities before registering them and before registering the factory. The quantity of the seized products exceeded “100,000” packages for a total of “29” different types of products.

The authority emphasized that these practices constitute a violation according to Article 28 of the Pharmaceuticals and Herbal Products Establishment Law, which states that “a pharmaceutical and herbal products factory is not allowed to start the production of pharmaceutical and herbal products in commercial quantities without registering them.” Paragraph 2 of Article 35 also specified that the punishment is imprisonment for up to “10” years, a fine not exceeding “10 million” Saudi Riyals, or both.

The General Authority for Food and Drug stressed the importance of compliance with regulations that ensure the safety of drugs in the Kingdom, urging the public to report violations of supervised facilities by calling the unified number “19999.”
