Under Saudi Leadership, ALECSO Executive Council Approves Conference for Appointment of New Assistant Director-General in Mid-September

Under the auspices of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Executive Council of the Arab Organization for Education, Culture, and Science (ALECSO) convened for its 123rd session at the organization’s headquarters in Tunisia, where several significant decisions were made. Foremost among them was the approval of Saudi Arabia’s proposal to hold an extraordinary session of the General Conference in mid-September to appoint a Deputy Director-General for the organization.

During the session, the Executive Council reviewed a report detailing the progress of the Committee for Developing the Operational Mechanisms of ALECSO’s General Conference. This initiative, championed by Saudi Arabia, was endorsed by the General Conference during its previous meeting in May 2024. The Council commended the structured approach taken by the committee, which is led by Saudi Arabia and includes participation from twelve other nations: the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, the Kingdom of Bahrain, the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, the Republic of Iraq, the Sultanate of Oman, the State of Palestine, the State of Qatar, the Union of the Comoros, the Kingdom of Morocco, the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, and the Republic of Yemen.
Moreover, the General Conference recognized the contributions of the committee’s leadership and members in promoting collaborative Arab efforts in practice. The committee informed the Executive Council about the various phases of their work, emphasizing that they have successfully completed the first phase and expect to finalize their efforts by March 2026.
