Between May 11 and May 17, 2025, the total number of point-of-sale (POS) transactions in Saudi Arabia reached an impressive 217.622 million, amounting to approximately 12.387 billion riyals. This figure represents a decline in value from the previous period, which saw transactions totaling around 13.101 billion riyals.
According to the weekly report published by the Saudi Central Bank, transactions varied across different sectors. In the clothing and footwear category, there were about 5.494 million transactions valued at 688.287 million riyals. The construction materials sector recorded 1.652 million transactions, contributing 330.167 million riyals. In education, there were 125,000 transactions worth 164.678 million riyals.
The electronics and electrical appliances sector witnessed 1.118 million transactions totaling 153.806 million riyals. Fuel stations saw a significant amount of activity, with around 16.757 million transactions valued at 929.744 million riyals. The health sector also showed considerable activity, with 7.834 million transactions amounting to 790.199 million riyals. Transactions related to furniture reached 1.218 million, representing a value of 261.840 million riyals.
In hospitality, hotels registered 619,000 transactions worth 218.217 million riyals, while public utilities accounted for 724,000 transactions valued at 47.046 million riyals. The jewelry market reflected 227,000 transactions totaling 330.450 million riyals. Additionally, the miscellaneous goods and services category had a notable 22.718 million transactions worth approximately 1.526 billion riyals.
The entertainment and culture sectors recorded 2.449 million transactions amounting to 229.483 million riyals. The food service industry, including restaurants and cafes, exhibited robust performance with 59.327 million transactions valued at 1.764 billion riyals. The food and beverage sector also reported high activity, with 51.044 million transactions totaling about 1.802 billion riyals. The telecommunications sector had 1.904 million transactions valued at 98.396 million riyals, while the transportation sector recorded 2.821 million transactions amounting to 703.758 million riyals. Additionally, other miscellaneous transactions contributed approximately 41.591 million transactions valued at around 2.348 billion riyals.
Examining the data at a city level, Riyadh led with a staggering 70.560 million transactions worth 4.503 billion riyals. Makkah followed with 8.252 million transactions totaling 393.385 million riyals, while Madinah registered 8.560 million transactions valued at 435.064 million riyals.
In the northern regions, Tabuk recorded 4.742 million transactions valued at 238.062 million riyals, while Hail saw 3.785 million transactions worth 193.431 million riyals. The city of Abha had 3.188 million transactions amounting to 153.570 million riyals, and Buraydah tallied 4.905 million transactions valued at 291.876 million riyals.
In the eastern province, the city of Khobar recorded 4.698 million transactions worth 377.152 million riyals. Dammam noted a total of 9.074 million transactions amounting to 640.596 million riyals, whereas Jeddah exhibited remarkable activity with 25.854 million transactions valued at approximately 1.748 billion riyals.
Overall, other cities collectively contributed 74.002 million transactions valued at around 3.413 billion riyals. These statistics reflect the dynamic nature of commerce in Saudi Arabia, showcasing a diverse array of consumer spending across various sectors and geographical areas.
