The General Directorate for Drug Control has made significant strides in combating drug-related offenses in several regions across Saudi Arabia. Recent operations have led to the apprehension of multiple individuals involved in the trafficking and promotion of various narcotics.
In Jeddah, authorities detained a Yemeni national for his involvement in distributing 2,397 tablets of the amphetamine narcotic. The suspect has been placed under custody, with appropriate legal procedures initiated. The case has been forwarded to the Public Prosecution for further investigation and action.
In a separate incident, a Saudi citizen in the Northern Borders region was arrested for promoting medical drugs that are regulated under the nation’s trading laws. Similar to the previous case, he has also been taken into custody, with necessary legal steps being implemented, and his case has been referred to the Public Prosecution.
Additionally, law enforcement in the Hail region apprehended another Saudi individual for his role in trafficking both hashish and regulated medical pills. This individual was similarly detained, and appropriate legal measures were enacted, leading to his referral to the Public Prosecution.
In a proactive operation, border patrols in the Rabou’a sector of the Asir region captured three Ethiopian nationals who were attempting to smuggle 60 kilograms of the Qat plant, known for its psychoactive properties. The initial legal procedures were completed, and the suspects, along with the illicit substances, were handed over to the appropriate authorities for further action.
Furthermore, border patrols in the same area successfully thwarted another smuggling attempt involving 176 kilograms of the Qat plant. As with previous cases, initial legal actions were taken, and the seized materials were delivered to the relevant agencies.
In the Al-Aridah sector of the Jazan region, five Yemeni nationals were apprehended for attempting to smuggle 75 kilograms of Qat. Legal processes were initiated immediately, and the perpetrators, along with the confiscated drugs, were forwarded to the appropriate legal authorities.
The security agencies are urging both citizens and residents to report any information they may have regarding drug trafficking or related activities. They encourage the public to promptly contact the designated emergency numbers: “911” for the regions of Makkah, Riyadh, and Eastern Province, “999” in all other areas, or the General Directorate for Drug Control hotline at “995”. They also provide a confidential email option at 995@gdnc.gov.sa, ensuring that all reports will be handled with complete confidentiality.
This proactive approach to tackling narcotics trafficking reflects the commitment of Saudi authorities to maintain public safety and uphold the law surrounding drug control. Ongoing efforts by law enforcement aim to dismantle drug trafficking networks while ensuring that those involved are held accountable under the law. The cooperation and vigilance of the public are seen as vital components in the fight against drug-related crimes, emphasizing a community-centric approach to achieving a drug-free society.
Overall, these operations not only demonstrate the effective collaboration of various law enforcement agencies but also highlight the seriousness with which the kingdom addresses the challenges posed by illegal drug activities, seeking to protect its citizens and maintain societal integrity.
