Crackdown on Drug Trafficking in Saudi Arabia: Multiple Arrests Made

The General Directorate for Drug Enforcement in Saudi Arabia has recently conducted a series of successful operations aimed at combating drug trafficking across various regions of the country. In a significant operation in the Eastern Province, officers apprehended three suspects: two individuals of Pakistani nationality and one from Ethiopia, all accused of distributing prohibited substances, specifically hashish and amphetamines. Following their arrests, the suspects were detained, and due legal actions were initiated against them. Subsequently, they were referred to the public prosecutor’s office for further legal processing.

In addition to this operation, authorities also arrested a Saudi national in the Asir region on charges of trafficking in a substantial quantity of controlled pharmaceutical pills. Specifically, the individual was found in possession of 8,623 tablets regulated under medical distribution laws. As with the previous arrests, this suspect was detained, and the appropriate legal procedures were taken, culminating in a referral to the public prosecutor.

Similar measures were taken in the Al-Jawf region, where another Saudi citizen was apprehended for dealing in hashish and amphetamines. The same pattern of immediate detention and referral to legal authorities was followed, emphasizing the government’s aggressive stance on drug-related offenses.

Moreover, border patrol units in the Al-Rubou’ah sector of the Asir region captured four individuals, including citizens from Yemen and Ethiopia. These suspects were engaged in the illicit smuggling of 80 kilograms of khat, a plant known for its psychoactive properties, which is prohibited in the Kingdom. Initial legal processing of these individuals was completed, and they, along with the confiscated items, were handed over to the relevant authorities for further action.

In light of these operations, security agencies are urging both citizens and residents to report any information they may have regarding drug trafficking or smuggling activities. Reports can be made by calling “911” in the Makkah, Riyadh, and Eastern Province regions, “999” in other areas of the Kingdom, or through the General Directorate for Drug Enforcement’s reporting number, “995.” Citizens can also submit information via email at 995@gdnc.gov.sa. All reports will be treated with the utmost confidentiality, reflecting the commitment of the authorities to secure community safety and combat the drug trade effectively.

This ongoing campaign against drug trafficking is part of broader initiatives by Saudi Arabia to tackle issues related to narcotics and their harmful effects on society. The arrests signal a robust law enforcement strategy that not only seeks to eliminate the distribution of illicit drugs but also aims to dismantle the networks behind these activities. The authorities are determined to create a safer environment for the public by cracking down on the individuals and groups involved in these criminal enterprises.

Through these efforts, the General Directorate for Drug Enforcement reinforces its dedication to combating drug-related crimes, thereby contributing to public health and safety across the nation. The emphasis on community collaboration through reporting and vigilance highlights the essential role of public participation in identifying and addressing drug-related issues, furthering the goal of creating a drug-free society in Saudi Arabia.
