On Thursday, a ceremonial launch marked the commencement of the Saudi Rally competitions in Jeddah, a significant event overseen by the Ministry of Sports and organized by the Saudi Motorsports Company in collaboration with the Saudi Motors and Motorcycles Federation. The celebration took place at the stunning waterfront venue, Roshan Marina, and was attended by His Royal Highness Prince Khalid bin Sultan bin Abdullah bin Faisal, who serves as the President of the Saudi Motors and Motorcycles Federation and the Chairman of the Saudi Motorsports Company.
In his address, Prince Khalid emphasized the unwavering support from the nation’s leadership for the sports sector as a whole, particularly for motorsports. He expressed that this backing has elevated the country’s status as a prime destination for motorsport enthusiasts and professionals alike. He also noted that directives from the Minister of Sports and the head of the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee have substantially contributed to amplifying the volume of events and activities, thereby showcasing the true essence of the beloved Kingdom.
The prince conveyed his delight regarding the return of the Middle East Championship to Saudi Arabia after a 15-year hiatus, heralding the country’s role in hosting an official leg of the World Rally Championship scheduled for November. He assured that the Saudi Motors and Motorcycles Federation is committed to nurturing the sport further and broadening its participant base, aspiring toward both regional and international excellence.
Transitioning back to the competition, participants engaged in a preliminary test stage on Thursday morning, covering a distance of 2.77 kilometers to fine-tune their vehicles and explore viable routes in anticipation of the first competitive stage. Notably, five lightweight vehicles from the “Side by Side” category opted to withdraw from the rally. The event features nine teams in the “Rally 2” category, along with five teams in “NR 4,” four teams in “Rally 4,” three competitors in the national rally, and one vehicle in the lightweight “Side by Side” class.
The first stage of the Saudi Rally is set to kick off on Friday, taking place in areas east of Jeddah. This phase comprises two segments: the first begins in Breiman, covering a distance of 14.02 kilometers, followed by a stretch through Wadi Al-Matwi, measuring 12.94 kilometers, and concluding at Um Al-Jurm, with a distance of 21.07 kilometers. After completing the third stage, these routes will be revisited to test participants once again.
