The Pharmaceutical Innovation Conference, organized by the General Authority for Food and Drug, has kicked off coinciding with the World Day for Creativity and Innovation. The event is attended by government officials, research centers, and universities at the headquarters of the General Authority for Food and Drug in the capital, Riyadh.
The conference was inaugurated by the CEO of the Authority, Dr. Hisham bin Saad Al-Jedaie, who emphasized that innovation is the cornerstone for building a sustainable pharmaceutical system that contributes to enhancing drug security and achieving scientific excellence. He pointed out that the Kingdom is moving in this direction by developing research, organizational, and industrial structures as part of the objectives of the Health Sector Transformation Program, one of the programs of Saudi Vision 2030.
He explained that the Authority, in cooperation with its partners in the public and private sectors, is working to create a supportive environment for innovation and enabling national industries to develop innovative and promising pharmaceutical products.
The conference saw the attendance of representatives from the Ministries of Health, Industry, Mineral Resources, and Investment, in addition to the Saudi Intellectual Property Authority, the Research and Development and Innovation Authority, the National Institute for Health Research, King Saud University, highlighting the importance of the conference in envisioning the future of pharmaceutical innovation locally and globally.
The sessions discussed the role of government agencies in supporting pharmaceutical innovation, future trends in drug development, the applications of artificial intelligence in drug discovery, regulatory and clinical aspects of innovative treatments, as well as reviewing initiatives of the World Health Organization in this field.
Through the conference, the Food and Drug Authority aims to enhance its role in supporting research and innovation, and to reinforce its mission of being a global leader in promoting the quality and safety of pharmaceutical products, highlighting the efforts it leads in areas under its supervision in line with its fourth strategic plan.
