Head of FDA Emphasizes Regulatory Bodies’ Role in Boosting Investment

Dr. Hisham bin Saad Al-Jedaie, the CEO of the General Authority for Food and Drug, participated in the third edition of the World Local Production Forum (WLPF) held in Abu Dhabi from April 7 to 9, 2025. The theme of the forum was “Enhancing Local Production for Health Equity, Global Health Security, and Sustainable Development.”

At the forum, Dr. Al-Jedaie led a dialogue session on “The Role of Organizational Excellence and Quality Assurance in Healthcare Manufacturing.” This session included regulatory and supervisory heads from China, Senegal, Cuba, and the African Union. The discussion focused on the role of regulatory bodies in supporting manufacturing environments and enhancing investments in pharmaceuticals and medical devices.

Dr. Al-Jedaie emphasized that advanced regulatory systems, based on good manufacturing practices and effective supervision, are essential in improving product quality, attracting quality investments, and building trust among investors and consumers. Regulatory bodies are key partners in developing the pharmaceutical and medical device industry, supporting its growth and sustainability.

Organizational regulatory efforts, including initiatives to empower investors and streamline procedures, have led to an 82% increase in the number of factories and warehouses in the Kingdom. This reflects the effectiveness of the national regulatory environment in empowering the pharmaceutical and medical device industry and achieving health security goals.

During the event, Dr. Al-Jedaie met with representatives of companies in the pharmaceutical and medical device sectors to discuss empowerment opportunities, available support, and address investor inquiries. The Authority is committed to strengthening partnerships with the private sector and creating a regulatory environment conducive to growth and investment.
