Empowering Women in Yemen through Solar Energy Initiatives
Recently, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center launched a professional training program focused on solar product development in the Al-Qatn district of Hadhramaut Governorate. This initiative is part of a broader effort to empower Yemeni women within the renewable energy sector, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
During the 17-day program, 200 women participated in intensive theoretical and practical training aimed at enhancing their life skills and business management capabilities. This training not only aimed at equipping the women with essential skills but also included the awarding of certificates to those who successfully established their own small enterprises. To further support these budding entrepreneurs, the program provided the necessary production equipment, ensuring the sustainability of their initiatives. Additionally, the participants showcased a variety of solar energy products developed throughout the practical training phase.
Furthermore, 16 trainers from the Technical, Veterinary, and Agricultural Institute were qualified to offer technical and administrative support to the program’s beneficiaries in the solar product sector. This initiative heralds the launch of a production phase that will entail the manufacturing and assembly of 10,500 units of solar stoves and lamps, which are set to be distributed to the most underprivileged families in the Al-Qatn region.
This project is part of a series of humanitarian and relief efforts implemented by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia through the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center.
