Sheikh Dr. Maher Al-Muaiqly Leads Eid al-Adha Prayers at the Holy Mosque

On the occasion of Eid al-Adha, worshippers gathered at the Sacred Mosque in Mecca, immersing themselves in a profound and spiritual atmosphere. The congregation was led by Shaikh Dr. Mahir bin Hamad Al-Muaiqly, the esteemed Imam and preacher of the mosque. In his sermon, he urged the attendees to observe piety and devotion to Allah, encouraging them to draw closer to Him through righteous deeds while avoiding His disobedience.
The Shaikh eloquently expressed that “Eid represents joy, compassion, and unity, reflecting forgiving minds and connected kinship.” He encouraged everyone to cherish the festive occasion, maintain family ties, and express gratitude for reaching these blessed days. He cited a narration from Sahih al-Bukhari, highlighting the practice of Umar ibn al-Khattab, who would loudly proclaim the Takbir (declaration of God’s greatness) while at Mina, prompting others in the mosque and the markets to join him until the area was resonating with this worship.
Additionally, the Imam mentioned how Allah has chosen the pilgrims of His Sacred House from among His creation and takes pride in them before His angels. He commended the congregation for their pilgrimage to one of Islam’s most significant pillars. He emphasized that believers are called to worship the One true God, reiterating the core tenet of monotheism that all prophets have preached. Quoting scripture, he reminded the listeners of their shared faith and unity: “Indeed, this is your nation, one nation, and I am your Lord, so worship Me.”
He elaborated on the essence of pilgrimage, noting that its ultimate goal is the affirmation of God’s oneness. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) signified this through his actions during the rites of Hajj, consistently announcing God’s singularity and calling upon Him in various forms of worship. The Imam stressed that a sincere believer’s life pivots around this fundamental principle of monotheism, as articulated in the Quran, which calls for all aspects of existence to be dedicated solely to Allah.
Furthermore, Shaikh Al-Muaiqly pointed out that, while affirming God’s oneness, it is equally important to embody kindness and mercy, especially during busy times such as these. The Prophet (peace be upon him) demonstrated this during the Day of Sacrifice by advising believers not to worry about minor decisions amid the festivities.
Addressing the pilgrims, the Imam emphasized that they are witnessing the greatest days on Earth, favorably sanctioned by Allah. He encouraged them to fill these days with acts of worship and remembrance, pointing out that the most rewarded among them are those who frequently mention Allah.
During the sermon, he also reminded congregants that one of the most revered practices during these days is the act of sacrifice, where certain requirements must be met for livestock. Specifically, details were provided regarding the age and qualities acceptable for sacrificial animals, alongside the timing of the act, which should commence after the Eid prayer and extend through the days of Tashreeq.
He expressed heartfelt appreciation for the hospitality extended to pilgrims in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, acknowledging the dedication and sacrifices made by leaders and citizens alike to ensure a secure and serene environment for worship.
In another significant note, the Imam pointed out that this year’s Eid coincided with Friday, asserting that for those who participate in the Eid prayer, attendance at the Friday prayer becomes optional—highlighting the special nature of this day’s confluence.
Shaikh Al-Muaiqly concluded by instilling a sense of responsibility among pilgrims to uphold the sanctity of the Hajj ritual while pursuing good deeds. He underscored that the acceptance of pilgrimage is paramount, with the ultimate reward being paradise, urging the community to take full advantage of these blessed times through righteous actions. The Eid prayers were also conducted in various provinces and villages, reinforcing the communal celebration of this esteemed occasion.
