Global Water Forum 2027 Proposes Six Strategic Paths for Action in the Next Two Years

The inaugural preparatory meeting for the 2027 World Water Forum recently concluded in Riyadh with the proposal of six strategic pathways for the forum’s activities over the next two years. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in partnership with the World Water Council and all stakeholders, is focused on key themes including water security, water financing, water diplomacy, water for people and nature, water value, and innovation in the water sector.
The preparatory meeting, held on April 14th and 15th, 2025, featured an opening session, stakeholder meetings, and extensive working sessions to discuss the main themes. Experts and specialists from local and international backgrounds participated in defining the specific focus areas for each theme to be further discussed and acted upon in the upcoming period.
Leaders from the Kingdom and the World Water Council were chosen to lead the discussions and determine the necessary steps to advance sustainable initiatives based on these themes, in line with the goals of the 2027 World Water Forum. The meeting highlighted the importance of holding workshops and continuous meetings over the next two years with the participation of all stakeholders. The initial results from the workshops and meetings will be presented at the second preparatory meeting for stakeholders scheduled for March 2026.
