International Support for Saudi Arabia and France’s Efforts in Preparing for International Conference on Palestinian Settlement

The Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations, Abdulaziz Al-Wasil, and the French Ambassador to the United Nations, Jerome Bonnafont, held the first briefing session for member states and observers at the United Nations headquarters in New York. They discussed the upcoming high-level international conference on the peaceful settlement of the Palestinian issue and the implementation of the two-state solution, scheduled for June 2025, jointly chaired by Saudi Arabia and France.
Ambassador Al-Wasil emphasized in his speech during the session that establishing an independent Palestinian state is essential for achieving security and stability in the region. He reiterated that Saudi Arabia has firmly supported the two-state solution for decades. He also announced the creation of multiple working groups to address key issues related to the settlement, urging member states to provide their input and proposals to support the preparations.
He explained that the UN conference represents an official and comprehensive process that enhances international efforts towards achieving a just and lasting resolution.
The majority of UN member states and regional observer countries expressed their full support for the efforts of Saudi Arabia and France in preparing for the conference. They affirmed their backing for the two-state solution as the only internationally agreed option. They stressed the importance of achieving practical results, including recognition of a Palestinian state, and rejecting any attempts at annexation and forced displacement, while also supporting the Palestinian government and UNRWA.
The participating countries praised Saudi Arabia’s leadership role in supporting the Palestinian cause, chairing the conference, promoting collective action, and maintaining the necessary political and diplomatic momentum for the success of the upcoming conference.
