Saudi Program for Development and Reconstruction in Yemen Boosts Education Quality in the Country

The projects and developmental initiatives introduced by the Kingdom through the Saudi Program for Development and Reconstruction in Yemen have played a significant role in enhancing the quality of education in Yemen. Support for the education sector is one of the program’s key contributions among various other vital sectors. This support reflects a commitment to achieving comprehensive and sustainable education in different Yemeni governorates.

The Saudi Program for Development and Reconstruction in Yemen contributes to achieving the fourth goal of the Sustainable Development Goals, which focuses on promoting quality and inclusive education. The program has implemented 58 developmental projects and initiatives in 11 Yemeni governorates, including Taiz, Aden, Socotra, Al-Mahra, Marib, Hadramout, Hajjah, Lahj, Abyan, Shabwa, and Al-Dhalea. These projects and initiatives in the education sector cover general education, higher education, technical and vocational training, and have had a positive impact on the lives of individuals and local communities in Yemen.

In the field of higher education, the program has introduced several projects and initiatives to enhance the efficiency of higher education, create a conducive environment for students to actively contribute to community development, achieve scientific progress, support the continuity of the educational process, and improve academic outcomes. The program has provided a package of projects to develop a comprehensive university in Aden, equipping 28 laboratories in the Faculty of Pharmacy in the fields of pharmaceutical science, biotechnology, and chemistry. This aims to achieve excellence in education, training, and scientific research in the medical sciences, preparing highly skilled medical professionals according to scientific standards. Additionally, the program has established and equipped a forensic research laboratory at the Faculty of Law, the first of its kind in Yemen.

Moreover, the program is working on establishing and equipping medical, pharmacy, and nursing colleges at the University of Taiz, which is expected to enhance the specialized scientific aspect of the university and prepare professionals capable of supporting the health sector in Yemen. This project aims to address the shortage of medical personnel, improve the quality of healthcare services, and promote scientific research.

The projects also include the development and expansion of the University of Saba Region in Marib Governorate, involving the construction of a building with 16 classrooms and an administrative office building. This is part of the efforts to enhance the efficiency of higher education, increase learning opportunities, and support educational infrastructure.

These educational projects are part of a total of 264 projects and initiatives within the program to support eight key and vital sectors, including education, health, transportation, energy, water, agriculture, fisheries, developmental programs, and government capacity development in 16 Yemeni governorates.
