Joint Task Forces Clamp Down on Residency and Labor Violations in Saudi Arabia

During a comprehensive enforcement operation across various regions in Saudi Arabia, joint task forces aimed at monitoring and apprehending individuals violating residency, labor, and border security laws successfully detained 15,928 offenders from May 1 to May 7, 2025.

Breakdown of Violations

The results of these operations reveal a significant number of violators categorized as follows:

  • Residency Violations: Among the total apprehended individuals, 10,179 were found to be in breach of the residency regulations.
  • Border Security Violations: A total of 3,912 individuals were apprehended for violating border security laws.
  • Labor Law Violations: The operations identified 1,837 individuals guilty of breaching labor regulations.

Attempts to Illegally Cross Borders

Furthermore, the task forces intercepted 1,248 individuals attempting to illegally enter the country. A demographic analysis of these individuals indicates that 35% were of Yemeni nationality, while 63% were Ethiopian nationals, with the remaining 2% representing other nationalities. Additionally, the authorities detained 45 individuals who sought to exit the kingdom unlawfully.

Facilitators of Violations

The operations also targeted individuals complicit in facilitating these violations. A total of 26 individuals were arrested for aiding and sheltering violators of residency, labor, and border security laws.

Ongoing Processing of Offenders

Currently, there are 25,689 violators undergoing processing for legal action. Among these, 23,946 are men while 1,743 are women. The authorities have referred 19,455 violators to their respective diplomatic missions for travel document procurement and have organized further travel arrangements for 1,667 individuals. In a decisive move, 12,898 violators have been slated for deportation.

Severe Penalties for Facilitators

The Ministry of Interior has issued a stern warning regarding involvement in facilitating the entry of individuals violating border security regulations. Individuals found guilty of providing assistance—be it through transportation, shelter, or any form of support to such violators—face severe penalties, including up to 15 years of imprisonment and fines reaching one million Saudi Riyals. In addition, any vehicles or residences used in facilitating these activities will be confiscated, coupled with public discredit.

The Ministry emphasized that such offenses are considered serious crimes warranting detention, jeopardizing the integrity and safety of the nation. The public is encouraged to report any suspicious activities or violations by calling designated emergency numbers: “911” for the regions of Mecca, Riyadh, and the Eastern Province, and “999” or “996” for the remainder of the kingdom.

Conclusion

These recent initiatives underscore the Saudi government’s resolute commitment to upholding its residency and labor laws, as well as ensuring national security. The scale of apprehension during this tactical enforcement period not only aims to mitigate illegal immigration but also to deter potential facilitators from engaging in unlawful activities. This substantial crackdown serves as a reminder of the importance of compliance with the established legal framework and the consequences of noncompliance.
