Saudi development projects enhance healthcare quality in Yemen

The Saudi Program for Development and Reconstruction in Yemen has been implementing various healthcare initiatives and projects aimed at improving the quality of healthcare services in Yemen and expanding access for Yemeni citizens. These initiatives have significantly contributed to the development and enhancement of the healthcare sector in Yemen.

Over the past years, the healthcare projects carried out by the Saudi program have provided comprehensive medical services for over 4 million beneficiaries in different Yemeni governorates. These services included the construction and equipping of hospitals and medical centers, the rehabilitation and operation of medical facilities, capacity building for medical staff, training opportunities, and public health awareness campaigns.

The healthcare projects aimed at supporting medical facilities have been instrumental in raising the standard of healthcare services in Yemen. Support was provided to 26 medical facilities in 9 Yemeni governorates, improving and expanding healthcare services for Yemeni citizens. Specialized hospitals and medical centers played a crucial role in providing treatment to patients from all parts of Yemen.

One of the noteworthy healthcare projects implemented by the Saudi program is the King Salman Medical and Educational City in Al Mahrah governorate. This project includes the construction of a fully-equipped hospital with 110 beds, outpatient clinics, and operating rooms, serving both the healthcare and education sectors in Yemen.

The Prince Mohammed bin Salman Hospital in Aden has also been pivotal in improving healthcare services in Yemen, delivering over 2.4 million medical services since its inception. The hospital boasts specialized clinics, a cardiac center, and 270 beds, equipped with 2187 modern medical devices. It has made significant strides in providing medical care to the people of Yemen, reflecting a commitment to enhancing healthcare services.

The establishment of a Kidney Dialysis Center in Al Mahrah governorate has catered to the needs of patients with kidney diseases, offering over 97,000 specialized medical services in kidney dialysis. This initiative has alleviated the suffering of many patients requiring regular dialysis treatment.

Furthermore, the Specialized Oncology Center in Taiz aims to provide diagnostic and treatment services for cancer patients, including radiation and chemotherapy treatments. This project is crucial in improving treatment opportunities for cancer patients in Yemen, addressing the challenges in the healthcare system.

The Hadramout University Hospital and Cancer Center, covering an area of 39,625 square meters, seeks to deliver high-quality medical services to patients in Hadramout and other Yemeni governorates. The project plays a vital role in enhancing the healthcare infrastructure in Yemen.

Support for maternal and child care services in Abyan governorate involves equipping several facilities with specialized medical devices, enhancing healthcare services in the region. Projects in Marib governorate focus on upgrading healthcare services and providing necessary medical equipment to hospitals, including the installation of the first MRI machine in the region.

The healthcare initiatives in Aden include the establishment of a blood laboratory at Al Jamhouriya Hospital to enhance healthcare efficiency and improve medical care for residents. The Kidney Center at Al Jamhouriya Hospital has been equipped with advanced medical devices, offering kidney-related services to patients. The inclusion of kidney dialysis machines has increased the center’s capacity to serve more patients.

The Saudi program emphasizes the support for vulnerable groups in society, such as disabled children. Projects catering to over 7,000 beneficiaries aim to provide rehabilitation and care services to disabled children, improving their quality of life.

Healthcare projects in Socotra governorate include the rehabilitation of maternal and child care centers and emergency care facilities, contributing to reproductive health services and catering to urgent cases. These initiatives aim to enhance healthcare services in Socotra and neighboring areas.

Additionally, apart from infrastructure development, the Saudi program focused on training local medical staff to enhance their skills and contribute to the improvement of the Yemeni healthcare sector. This support has led to the creation of new job opportunities in healthcare, ultimately benefiting citizens.

The healthcare projects and initiatives implemented by the Saudi program underscore the Kingdom’s commitment to supporting Yemen during challenging times in the healthcare sector. The support extends beyond healthcare to encompass other essential sectors, including education, transportation, energy, water, agriculture, fisheries, and development programs, showcasing a holistic approach to capacity building and government support. A total of 264 projects and initiatives were carried out in 16 Yemeni governorates as part of this comprehensive effort.
